Microsoft Windows
Microsft Windows comes with a utility called'magnifier', this tutotial will help you to utalise this utility to make your internet browsing more enjoyable.
- Start by clicking the start menu, this can be achieved a number of ways either by using the mouse, pressing the 'Windows' key on the keyboard or 'ctrl' + 'esc' (for keyboards without the windows key).
- Next navigate to 'programs' >> 'accessories >> 'accessibility >> 'magnifier. This can be achieved either by using the mouse or by entering the following key combination, 'p', 'enter', 'a', 'enter', 'enter', 'm'.
- The magnifier will then appear and set the default zoom to 3 – you can customise this according to your preference.
Changing your screen resolution
You can also change the size of your screen resolution to make the text / images appear larger, to learn how to change your screeen resolution follow the following instructions.
- Navigate to 'start' >> 'settings' >> 'control panel' >> 'display'either by using the mouse or by using the following key combination 'windows (alt + esc for keyboards without windows key)' + 's' + 'c' + 'd'.
- Navigate accross to the 'settings' tab either by mouse or 'cntrl' + 'tab'.
- Navigate to 'screen area' either my mouse or 'alt' + 's'. Adjust the slider to your required screen resolution. Tip: moving to the left increases the size of text.
- Click on the 'ok' button, folowed by 'ok' again.
Mac
Mac OS 8/9 comes with a utility called 'close view', this tutotial will help you to utalise this utility to make your internet browsing more enjoyable.
- Firstly navigate to 'apple (menu)' >> 'control panel' >> 'closeview' to lauch the software.
- If 'closeview' software doesn't appear to be on the mac – it will need to be installed, the software can be found on mac cd.
- Alternativly you can launch / exit the closeview software by using 'alt' + 'apple' + 'k'. There are also a keyboard shortcut to turn magnification on or off 'alt' + 'apple' + 'x'. To increase / descrease use 'alt' + 'apple' + 'alt' + 'apple' + '-' .
Mac OS X users
- Firstly navigate to 'apple (menu)' >> 'control panel' >> 'closeview' to lauch the software.

- Navigate to 'apple menu' >> 'system preferences' >> 'displays'.
- Under the 'resolution' section, you can the select the resolution that your require Tip: lowering the resolution increases the size of text.
- Once you are happy with your resolution change press 'apple' + 'w' to close the window.
